Billing Specialist

Job Qualifications

The billing specialist is the individual who assumes responsibility for all the billing and payments for the programs and services Visinet, Inc. provides through both active billing practices as well as supervision of staff.  The duties associated with this position include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain scheduled hours and inform direct supervisor of a modification in these regular hours.
  • Activate files as referrals and documentation are submitted by the program coordinators. 
  • Provide thorough initial and on-going training and education to billing staff members to allow them to be effective, efficient employees.
  • Upon receiving the appropriate billing information from the program coordinators, prepare for the billing cycle.
  • Bring incomplete/unclear documentation issues to the attention of the appropriate coordinator.
  • Assume responsibility for he accurate printing, copying, mailing of billing documents to the correct funding/referral source.
  • Process all billing by the deadlines set forth.
  • Thoroughly troubleshoot all stages of the billing process to avoid errors and prevent payment delays.
  • Report all payment delays to Office Coordinator.
  • Research non-payments thoroughly--within six to eight (6-8) weeks of exporting the billing, bring to the direct supervisors and resubmit as requested. Follow up within 2-4 weeks with the direct supervisors.
  • Discuss all rejections with direct supervisors, rebill as necessary, and track for follow up purposes.
  • Maintain accurate filling of billing and payment records.
  • Accurately input the billing submitted/payments received in the remote billing tracker.
  • Provide coverage for the receptionist, office coordiantor, other billing specialists as needed and adhere to the protocol set forth in their job descriptions.
  • Adhere to the strict confidentiality policies indicated in the Employee Manual, as well as all of the other policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with funding sources to ensure effective communication and to allow issues to be efficiently addressed by the respective insurance companies.
  • Assist in the development of new techniques and methods to improve efficiency and efficacy of operations.
  • Develop safeguards to prevent repeat errors.
  • Complete 8 hours of Mandt training
  • Complete CPR training or recertification for CPR training.
  • Participate in special projects and meet deadlines as assigned by the CEO/CFO/COO and/or the Director of Operations. 

The qualifications for this position include at least 2 years of post high school education as well as experience in medical billing, insurance, accounts receivable or accounting. The average starting pay for this position is $11.00. Full-time benefits for this position would be available as described in the Employee Manual.
